LCCC Wireless Network Access


What is it?


The College's wireless system is an extension to our traditional wired network. Data is transmitted through the air in radio waves and eliminates cables and data jacks. This allows you to get online in places where data jacks are in short supply or don't exist at all. To gain access to the network, you will need a laptop, notebook, or PDA that has 802.11b or g connectivity. When Would I Use It?


LCCC's wireless network is intended to serve as an added convenience for our online community; it is not meant to replace our existing wired network. You will find that the wireless network normally operates at slower speeds than the wired system. It's also important to remember that the wireless system is a shared resource; the more it's being used, the slower it will be. You should be considerate of other users and refrain from engaging in data-intensive operations, like uploading large files or streaming video.

How Do I Gain Access?

To gain access to the wireless network you must read and understand the parameters listed above as well as the "Rights and Responsibilities of Students Using LCCC's Technology" section of your student handbook. A form must be filled out and signed at the Service Desk of the Rothrock Library. Site campuses will submit the form to the front desk and send the form to the main campus Help Desk. You must also show a current student ID. The Help Desk will assign an ID to the student and email their user name and password to login to the wireless network. Your ID will last for only one semester so you must reapply for access every semester for security reasons.
