This program will give you examples of best-practice approaches to, and outcomes
from, assessing institutional effectiveness and learning outcomes—particularly
with respect to how this information feeds into the planning processes at
a college or university. While this is not a comprehensive discussion of how
to develop an assessment program at a given institution, it does underscore
the importance of a broad spectrum of assessment information in supporting
ongoing planning activity. You will receive concrete case studies of exemplary
analytical practice in support of planning.

Teaching a Dual Enrollment Course

Learn the nuts and bolts of implementing a Dual Enrollment class, while networking
with other faculty participating in this program. This workshop will cover
some of the specifics unique to teaching high school students in a college
level course. Discussion will focus on such topics as course schedules, grading,
withdrawal policies, library resources, transfer of college credits and collaborative
partnership opportunities.

The Wide World of Wikis

Wikis are a dynamic way to store and share information for the college classroom.
In this interactive presentation, participants will see examples of academic
wikis, discuss intellectual property and copyright, and learn how to create
a wiki! Participants will have hands-on experience in our new Super Classroom!
If time permits, we will explore the use of blogs in the classroom, as well.
An Overview on Depression
and Bipolar Disorder in College Students

If you have not, it is increasingly likely that you will encounter a student
with a diagnosed or undiagnosed mental health disorder. This presentation
will focus on mood disorders including bipolar I, bipolar II, and major depressive
disorders. The features, prevalence, treatment options, and what you can do
to support students with these illnesses.

This presentation will give adjunct faculty tips and tricks for using Excel
both in and out of the classroom. Some things covered will be setting up a
simple grade book, email/mailing lists to create mail merge documents, using
Excel to track attendance, and more.

As a result of Middle States Self-Study and Assessment Council activity, the college is discussing two changes: (1) the addition of a values statement to more fully explain LCCC’s mission and vision, (2) the text change of college-wide competency #8 and its implementation. The work for these activities was begun during fall faculty meetings and supplemented with input from administrative planning teams. During this session, a draft of the value statement and the implementation of the collegewide competency change will be reviewed and discussed. Responses will be recorded for further consideration.
