1. How can I get into the Medical Assisting Program?

All candidates for the Medical Assistant program must meet the following
criteria:
1. Submit a high school diploma or GED
2. Earn acceptable scores (as set by the College) on the LCCC Assessment Test
3. Complete a personal interview with Mrs. Judith Ehninger, Program Coordinator. *Students are selected for admission to the Medical Assistant program based upon their interest and knowledge of the profession, academic preparation, and communication skills demonstrated through a writing sample and personal interview. Students who are not academically prepared, but demonstrate strong communication skills and career interest may be considered for admission to the program after successfully completing an individually designed preparatory program.

2. How long will it take to get a Certificate?

This program can be completed in two years as a full-time student taking 16-18 credits each semester.

3. Could I attend the Medical Assisting program part-time?

Students may elect to study Medical Assisting on a part-time basis.

4. How do I get Certified?

Graduates of the LCCC Medical Assistant program are eligible to sit for the American Association of Medical Assistants (A.A.M.A.) Certified Medical Assistant examination.

5. After completing this program what will I be able to do?

Perform administrative and clinical duties in a variety of ambulatory health care settings. Demonstrate entry-level administrative technology skills including office computer operations, bookkeeping/accounting functions, and insurance billing/collection procedures. Integrate concepts of the liberal arts and social sciences to promote effective communication with patients and colleagues. Demonstrate knowledge and skill applying fundamental principles of ambulatory patient care, including infection control, specimen collection, and diagnostic testing. Utilize teaching-learning techniques to identify, direct, and evaluate health education needs of patients. Practice within the ethical-legal framework established by state statutes and the American Association of Medical Assistants

6. Are there jobs available in Medical Assisting field?

According to the U.S. Department of Labor, Bureau of Labor Statistics job prospects for Medical Assistants with formal training are growing much faster than average due to an expansion of the health services industry.

7. What is the percent of graduates that actually land a job?

Nearly 100 percent of LCCC graduates find employment in area hospitals, physicians’ offices, and clinics.

8. Is Financial Aid available for the Medical Assistant program?

A full program of financial aid and veterans’ benefits is available to students. A tuition payment plan is also available.

9. Could I use College credits from prior learning?

Students may be awarded college credit for previous work experience, in-service training, or self-study.


10. Are Counseling Services available?

Counseling services are available to LCCC students for academic concerns, career planning, and transfer information.

11.Are there placement services at the college?

Students seeking employment are offered assistance with resume writing and interview techniques. LCCC also offers: Career Commencement, an interactive, multimedia computer program that helps students in their job searches.
